FAQs
Can I use the internet or telephone?
Not all homestays have internet access, but there is free wireless internet access at the school. Always ask first if you want to use the telephone.
Can I cook in my homestay?
It is not usual for students to cook in their homestay. We do have a very limited amount of private homestays where this is sometimes possible. Students are asked not to bring their own food unless they have special dietary requirements and with prior permission from the homestay host.
What is a 'private homestay?'
In a private homestay there are more than three student rooms in the house. This option is good for the more independent student. It often means that meals are taken with the other students, not with the members of the family.
Can I have friends to visit?
It is usually okay for a friend to visit but please ask your homestay host first. It is not acceptable to have guests stay overnight. In the residence, guests are welcome until 11pm but no overnight visitors are allowed.
What happens if I take a break?
If you want to keep your accommodation while you are away, or keep your luggage in your room, you must pay a weekly 'retainer' fee. Students living in Tripos Court or other residential accommodation wishing to take a break must pay full rent for this period.
