Cambridge is a beautiful city, rich with history, and famous for its university colleges. But not everything is old here - the city also has a thriving high-tech park ('Silicon Fen') which includes an £80m Microsoft research centre.
The most common form of transport is the bicycle, and perhaps the most enjoyable form is punting on the river Cam. The medieval architecture and wide-open spaces are complemented by a rich array of vibrant cafes, restaurants, bars, and music venues. There also an excellent selection of museums, art galleries theatres and cinemas.
The Grand Arcade is a popular shopping centre with over sixty retailers containing many world-famous brands. For the more independent shopper there is also a good selection of street markets and off-beat boutiques selling vintage and second-hand goods.
